There are certainly problems with advertising, some industries, misleading people, etc. But none of that is an ethical problem of failing to credit the originators of ideas. We don't have any ethical obligation to do that. For example, if you learn some knowledge at school, nobody will be hurt if you just use it for free forever without tracking down who first discovered it and crediting them. Same goes for all knowledge. Doing that would cripple any productive work.
