You may have heard its previous name being used - iPython notebook. FWIW it took me a year plus to actually start using the name Jupyter. Wasn't until one of my students asked me why I kept saying "iPython" when the tab says "Jupyter"

Jupyter notebooks can run with other programming languages too. Julia, for example, is designed to interface with Jupyter for a more matlab/mathematica -ey experience.
